What can I write that will conjure up the past 7 weeks and give you a picture of the story of DESTINY AFRICA in the UK?! It’s been a tour of complete craziness, singing, dancing, drumming, passion, joy, fun, laughter, tears, road trips and endless energy and life! After an eventful start, Destiny Africa finally reached the UK on the 11th October. It was an incredible moment when I met them all at the airport and in many ways very surreal! We distributed the coats and set off into the crisp cold morning that awaited us outside the airport, much to the Ugandans disliking!

The team settled so well into life in the UK, they enjoyed the food as long as it wasn’t spicy and some even began to like the cold weather!

For the next 7 weeks, Destiny Africa toured around the country performing in schools, evening concerts and leading church services. They also were asked to perform at the opening of a local midlands school, got to sing inside the changing rooms at the Manchester United football grounds and enjoyed chasing Percy the penguin down the slopes at Snowzone!

I am sure many of you are aware of the grand finale of the tour which would be considered a miracle in many ways! - From initially being refused entry into the country, to giving their last performance before the heart of British Government! It was a brilliant day and Destiny Africa left their mark at 10 Downing Street with the passion, joy and life that was shown in their performance and stories.

It was amazing to watch the children come alive as they sung and danced around the country. As we travelled around, especially in schools, I was again reminded that no matter where you are in the world children are all the same, they all carry a purity and innocence that we the older generations have a responsibility to protect. They love to play, laugh and have fun with each other, whatever pain or abuse a child has had to endure, each one deserves to have their childhood back and to be loved. In working with Destiny Africa on this tour, I saw that they carried something so precious that our society is losing – innocence. It was incredible again to journey together for 7 weeks with lives that have been changed through Kampala Children’s Centre and I was challenged again with the transforming power of Love. Many came to watch Destiny Africa and they were challenged by the hope and joy that was displayed through each child. People of all ages (including young children and pupils at schools) came to me in tears after watching Destiny Africa. They were challenged by the pure, simple faith and the enormous capacity to love that the children from KCC have. They have every reason to be hopeless if they were to dwell on their past, but these children now know that they are worth something and that they can dream. It is very evident that their Hope is a daily reality and their Joy is contagious!

It has been a privilege to tour with the choir and be amongst such inspiring and beautiful children, many of whom I have known since they first came to KCC. Also as a team we were so impacted by the many wonderful people we met, and stayed with, at every venue the welcome and love we all received. Each place was a powerful example of love.
